Salmon and Science
“Salmon and Science” is a animation that I created for the Local Government Commission. This piece visualizes a Storycorps recording of two CivicSpark™ Americorps fellows discussing their work studying the salmon population along the American River.
Recognizing their passion, my goal was to create a visual style that would allow the audience to connect with their story. I wanted the tone to be light and heartfelt, and for audiences to care about their work as much as they did.
For this piece I wanted to use 3D animation in a nontraditional way. By using flat shading and animated outlines I sought to achieve a more textured, hand-drawn effect. All of the scenes in this video were created using Blender 3D and composited using Adobe After Effects CC.
